From GoodreadsHell is looking for a way to break loose…
Jax lost the genetic lottery. Descended from Cain, the world’s first murderer, he’s plagued by a curse that demands violence in exchange for his happiness. He left everything behind, including the girl he loved, but thriving on the pain of others is lonely… And it’s killing him.
After a series of heartbreaking losses, Samantha put rubber to pavement and headed for college as fast as her clunker could carry her. But she can’t outrun her problems. When an attack at school drives her back home, she’s thrown into the path of a past—and a guy—she’s been trying to forget.
Sam strains Jax’s control over his darkness, but running isn’t an option this time. Someone—or, something—followed her home from school: a ruthless monster with a twisted plan centuries in the making. Forced together to survive, and fighting an attraction that could destroy them both, Jax and Sam must stop a killer bent on revenge.

My Thoughts:  This was awesome. . . except for the sex. Yep, I’m going to get this out. The sex didn’t add anything at all to the story, and that irritates me. It seems that it was thrown in just to be in there. But, it didn’t add anything to the characters or to the story. The feelings and teasing close calls was enough to thrum up the tension. Yes, I know that this is a new adult title, and that NA is for the gap between young adult and adult. But there should still be a purpose for the sex and not just a filler. The stunning details were not needed. In my opinion. But enough about the sex. . .

Jax and Sam was amazing characters . I alternated between wanting to slap one (or both) of them, wanting to high five them and feeling sorry for them. The story was engaging, kept me turning the pages as well as keeping me on my toes. but, it had that first in a series feel. So I was left with a lot of questions. Some haven’t been addressed, but I hope that they will be. I appreciate the fact that we are discovering the answers alongside the characters. I also love the fact that is a lot more than good versus evil story. Jax, who is made to appear as if he is the bad guy , is so much more. You don’t know that there’s more going on until the end, which will make waiting for the next book annoying. I like the way that this book ended though. For now, things are sort of settled, with definitely more to come.
